ELSA Youth Meetings - past and future

Delegates of ELSA Youth Meetings met for a reunion in Ghent

The 6th World Congress for people who stutter in Ghent, Belgium this summer provided an excellent opportunity for a reunion of delegates who attended one or more of ELSA's past Youth Meetings. Approximately a dozen young people met for dinner with the ELSA board members for an evening of reflection on the past meetings as well as opening a discussion concerning a provisional one planned to take part in Poland during 2003.

Many of the delegates shared memories and positive experiences. They were also able to bring each other up to date on how attending an ELSA Youth meeting had led to them becoming more active in their own countries within the stuttering community. To reiterate this, the attendees from Poland discussed future plans with the group about holding the next Youth Meeting. The exact location is yet to be decided, but in 2003, the input of the past delegates and the enthusiasm from all concerned will no doubt ensure that 2003 will being us the best Youth Meeting yet - if such a thing is possible!

Providing information on the internet

www.europe.is/elsa

ELSA's main role within the European network of stuttering organisations is to organize and promote exchange. This also determines the philosophy of the ELSA website. The site does not aim at competing with the numerous national homepages in many of which present lots of excellent information on stuttering and therapy. Rather, www.europe.is/elsa is a place where stuttering is being put in a European context. This is what you can find:
  • Adresses, contacts and links of all national stuttering associations in Europe
  • Links to other numerous stuttering sites all around the world
  • Links to interesting websites of the European Union, discrimination, funding, links and others
  • Proceedings and papers of ELSA meetings and seminars
  • Reports on ELSA projects such as the ELSA sureveys and Youth Meetings
  • Online version of THE VOICE OF ELSA
  • Calendar, News section, proposed seminars and conferences
  • General Disability links and associated with stuttering
