AUGUST 2002 ELSA Conferences: Several National Stuttering Associations have enquired when ELSA will hold another European conference. As previously mentioned, the funding situation with the EU has become very difficult. Small non-governmental organisations such as ELSA are having great problems in meeting the funding criteria as often the minimum grant has to be around 50,000-100,000 Euro. An application for 2002 was turned down. For 2003 a funding application has recently been submitted to the Commission in Brussels. Please also see the paragraph below on the European Year of People with Disabilities. If this application is successful, the Association Vaincre le Bégaiement (AVB) would like to welcome us in Strasbourg for an ELSA meeting. We thank the AVB and Hubert Zeiger for this friendly offer and we hope the application will be successful! European Youth Seminar: For 2003 we are planning another Youth Seminar for people who stutter aged under 25. A funding application will be made at the European Youth Foundation in September, whose funding criteria and procedures are normally less complicated than those of the EU. Two venues are currently being considered; Poland and the Netherlands. TTM España: We are happy to inform you that a new Spanish National Stuttering Association has been formed, called TTM Espana. As the name suggests the organisation developed from the Spanish speaking internet group. The contact person for international affairs is Claudia Groesman an Argentinian psychologist now living and working in Barcelona. We wish our colleagues in Spain every success! |
